the idea for the delicious beet & orange brownies came from this delightful cookbook, kitchen & co. by ellie grace. you can hardly taste the beets - it's all about the butter, dark chocolate and orange. mmmmm. you won't regret trying this recipe out.
these beets came from the vegetable garden at our cottage up near creemore, ontario.
the orange, however, did not. ;)
here's my mum adding some beets.

now as i mentioned in my previous post, i absolutely adore grapefruits, and one delicious way to enjoy them (especially in the winter), is broiled! all you do is cut the grapefruit in half, carve out each individual piece, sprinkle some brown sugar and cinnamon and broil for 4-5 minutes! apparently it brings out some of the healthiest components of the grapefruit too. to me its like a combination of cider and my favourite, most joyous fruit. :)

and finally, we have the savoury watermelon salad. this one is always a crowd pleaser on a summer night. all you have to do is cut up a big watermelon into little cubes, cut up some feta into little blocks, add a bit of red onion, fresh mint, and then dress in a sprinkling of olive oil, lemon juice and black pepper! who knew a watermelon could be so versatile.
food is so pretty, don't you think?
