halloween 2013: magic school bus edition

this halloween, my silly, fabulous roommate and i found ourselves in our normal fix - what to be for hallow's eve! we had originally planned on being the three witches from hocus pocus (my roommates made me watch it - somehow that movie is not part of pop culture in canada the way it is in the states!), but when one roommate had to go home for the weekend, we were back to the drawing board.

luckily, i randomly had the brainwave - ms frizzle!! and who to go with? the lizard? one of the kids? nah... i am a firm anti-sexy halloween costume believer (isn't that what the rest of life is for?) - i'd much rather be silly and funny. so, i went as the bus.

first step, my roomie and i went to the thrift store to find him a ms. frizzle-esque dress we could work with...
we got some looks from angry shoppers in this slightly sketchy area of chicago thrift shop... how cute is the dress with the belt?

i took two brown boxes, a whole lot of glue, bristol board, construction paper, staples and duct tape....

attaching wings was quite imperative, we thought.

and naturally, i needed the characters of the magic school bus peeking out of the windows!! it really is a funny show. arnold is saying his catch phrase, "i knew i should've stayed home today..."

how fabulous andy ended up looking!!!! he had light up stars, planets, i did some glittery makeup on him.... a beautiful frizz.

my finishing touch were some suspenders so i could wear the bus all night (back pain beware).

how could you not have fun when you're a school bus??

one more plus - i could park the bus and hide whenever conversation hit a lull.

can't wait till next year's halloween!!
